On the 12th December, the UK Forum on a Multipolar World Held a Joint event organised with the Yenching Academy, Peking University and hosted at the Beijing Club for International Dialogue. Daniel Cowen MBE, the World Economic Forum’s Trade and Economy lead for Greater China, gave a presentation on the recent trends in China’s economy including China’s global dominance of many industries, and potential structural issues facing China in the near future. This was followed by a panel discussion featuring independent economist Jian Lian (简练) and students from around the world.

Daniel Cowen MBE
Daniel Cowen MBE is the World Economic Forum’s Trade and Economy lead for Greater China. He has over a decade of public and private sector experience in trade, financial services and diplomacy, and is a fluent mandarin speaker.
He was previously based at the British Embassy in Beijing for seven years, and led the UK Department of Business and Trade’s financial and professional services trade and investment initiatives there, as well as delivering an economic development programme on behalf of the UK’s Foreign Office. Prior to this, he was Chief of Staff at Tsinghua Holdings Capital, a leading Chinese private equity firm.
